Twitter has certainly taken updating your status to a completely new level, and Facebook has taken sharing to a new level. LinkedIn finally came along to show businesses and industry professionals how to combine the marketing aspects of social networking, and the need for networking among businesses. These social media sites, and many others, have found a permanent home on the semantic web, and they don’t appear to be heading anywhere anytime soon.
Networking through the channels of social media sites is a great way for businesses to increase their visibility on the Internet. There are many reasons to get started with social media networking as soon as possible, but it is important to take it seriously. While you are able to do great things for your site through social media networking, you must always remember that the reputation you create online directly reflects your business.

LinkedIn: This is just not for internet marketing companies, but it is for all business professionals; it is not about making friends and finding a date. It is for companies and individuals that want to network among industry professionals. You can ask and answer questions within your network as a way of sharing information in any given industry niche. You can also have your page indexed by search engines, and your social profile may show up in search results.
Facebook: The use of Facebook for businesses is mostly in fan pages and specific profiles. You can announce the release of a new product or service on your Facebook page, and interact with potential customers. It is a great way to produce an online personality.
Twitter: Twitter is another great way to create an online personality for your business. You can “tweet” about any industry or company-related news, and even make contacts with potential sources, leads, and more.

Digg: A great way to share your knowledge of certain genres is to post your articles and blogs to media sites such as Digg. It does not matter whether your articles are about a particular industry, or informative for the general public. Posting them to Digg helps increase the visibility and search engine optimization of your website. Make sure you keep in concise and clean and you will likely see a spike in traffic to your site.
YouTube: The viral video God is a great way to bring more interest to your site. Whether you are demonstrating the effectiveness of a product, or showing the steps to using a program, these videos can help your business gain visibility. They are optimized and indexed, and if they are any good, they may just go viral!
